A FEW QUICK ANSWERS TO YOUR TELESEMINAR QUESTIONS

Note: Today’s REAL posting is below this one. Check out the video…

On Tuesday, October 14, I’m conducting a live, 90-minute teleseminar entitled HOW TO GET PAST THE GATEKEEPER. Here are my honest answers to a few of the most commonly asked questions I’ve received.

Q: What kind of equipment do I need to participate?

A: All you need is a telephone.

Q: Is this a “webinar”?

A: Nope. “Teleseminar” = “great big conference call where Dan does most of the talking.” It’s interactive, but it’s all done over the telephone. Just this morning I “attended” a webinar, and sure enough: 3/4 of the time was spent by the presenters trying to figure out how to make the Internet stuff work. While I don’t rule out ever doing a webinar, when I can deliver the information just as effectively using just a telephone, I’ll use just the telephone.

Q: If I register, I’d want my enter sales staff to participate. Do you have a group rate?

A: The individual rate and the group rate are the same — as long as the group is all gathered ’round the same telephone. I want your entire sales staff to learn these techniques.

Q: What if something unexpected prevents me from attending?

A: Naturally, being there “live” is best. For one thing, you’ll be able to participate in the extensive Q&A session. But everyone who registers also will receive the mp3 recording of the entire teleseminar plus the complete study guides. So you’re well protected.

I signed up for myself. Mike immediately sent me a confirmation, which was pretty cool by itself. Looking forward to it “LIVE”.

I just registered. I’m already making the Do Not Disturb sign to go on my door on Tuesday.

@Chris – Just received your registration. Glad you’ll be joining us.

We registered to provide continued training opportunities for our sales team. We have a diverse crew from 3 month rookie to 20 year vets, everyone is looking to continue to learn and grow and as a company, we have to do our part.

Secondly, I want to bring in a new voice (not so new to some) to support our training. Also
to see that the problems they encounter are not just a local issue.

We will have 12 people attending, 9 sales people, 1 local Sales manager, our creative director, plus myself.

I live by the theory, education with out action is entertainment, so we will measure the results by what each person says they will be applying. If they do what they say, and it helps them progress to reaching their goals, then money well invested, if not, then they were entertained for 90 minutes.

My GM and I had a chance to see your presentation on this subject two or three years ago at an RAB Convention and both agreed this was great information. So when you announced the “teleseminar”, we thought this would be very valuable for our sales team to experience, too. Our company has invested in sending staff to several of your seminars over the years, from sales and programming alike, and you continue to deliver information we can use.

@Peter – Of the 12 people you’ll have attending, I’ll be interested to hear how many say:

“Wow, I can’t wait to try this stuff!”

    “This will never work.”

“Sounds radical, but I’m willing to give it a try.”

I’m glad you’re including your creative director, because these techniques work for ANYONE who ever needs to get past a gatekeeper — not just for salespeople.

@Chris – Thanks for your kind words. Now, let me put you on the spot:

You and your GM attended a version of this seminar a couple of years ago. Without revealing any of my “secret techniques,” did either of you test any of them to see if they really do work?

  • Bob Souer October 9, 2008, 9:53 pm

    Dan,

I signed up for this for myself and my voiceover business. Among my many weaknesses, getting flustered while on the phone while trying to make contact with a potential for my voiceover business is perhaps my greatest.

Knowing you, and studying with you, for as many years as I have, I’m confident that what I’m going to learn will be practical, immediately useful ideas on how to improve my phone contact skills.

    Be well,
    Bob

@Bob – You’ll probably have an easier time applying these techniques than most people, because it’s all — well, mostly — about how you present yourself on the phone. You get flustered because you don’t have a game plan, so you try to “wing it” (as most people do).

    Talk to you on Tuesday….
