VOICEOVER DEMO
QUESTION:
I'm redoing my voiceover demo tape, and I've been told I it would
be better if I included some national commercials on it. Only
problem is I haven't done any national spots yet. How can I get
my hands on some good commercial copy for national advertisers?
DAN REPLIES:
You might be surprised at how easily you can find good copy for
your demo by perusing the print ads in national or influential
regional magazines.
Flip through a few quickly, keeping an eye out for full-page ads
headlines that lead directly to conversationally presented declarative
statements and/or challenges. The copy won't be in small type;
it'll be pretty big, lots of white space on the page...as the
copywriter drives home the competitive thrust of the ad.
With, possibly, a little alteration on your part, you'll have
some strong copy representing a national advertiser....And, of
course, you DON'T need to find 60 seconds' worth. Use 7-10 seconds
of that "national commercial" on your tape and the listener
will assume you're providing an excerpt of a full spot.
