TRUE WEATHER LIES
QUESTION FOR DAN O’DAY:
Here I sit on a Saturday morning getting ready to sit down in the studio
and start reading endless weather broadcasts. I will spend about 3 hours
recording over 26 weather minutes into the system.
My GM says it's a service to our community to record a new weather every
hour, including a guess at what the temperature will be when the cart kicks in.
I am the program director and I have tried to have it changed to just a few
carts running throughout the day (without a temperature guess), but the GM won’t budge.
Any advice sir on how I can sway him, or are my complaints unfounded?
DAN REPLIES:
Does your GM happen to be a member of Congress? Who else would define lying to your listeners as "a service to our community"?
My advice is not to keep trying to change your GM’s mind. You can't force a professional attitude on people who prefer to act unprofessionally...especially when those people are above you in the station hierarchy.
