THEY PULLED MY PROMOS!
QUESTION FOR DAN O’DAY:
I have been doing mornings at a small market country station for about six months now. A couple of months ago, I started to run some promos promoting my show.
Now, the PD is telling me that they don't fit with overall feel of the station, so they need to be pulled permanently. No re-do's or do it a different way, just dump them. These promos are pretty generic and sound just like all the other spots we run here.
Are they yanking my chain here? Aren't morning shows supposed to promote themselves? I'm afraid they are sending my show down the drain.
DAN REPLIES:
Your PD does have the right -- the duty -- to determine what airs on your station. It is not the morning jock's job to tell other dayparts to run promos for his program. So I have to side with your PD here.
Should the morning show be promoted throughout the day? If it's a good one, yes. But that's a decision for the PD to make, not the morning host.
