TEAM DEPENDENCY QUESTION: Hopefully this question will produce some good advice for producers and hosts. I produce the morning show (Large Market). The hosts have been on the station for 20 years...must be some kind of record! I've been with them about a year and a half. Bottom line is that they're completely dependent on each other. This morning, one of them called in sick. The half that was left ended up doing the worst show in (Local) history. My question is, when half of a solid team is out, what can be done to prevent a train wreck? DAN REPLIES: If it takes both guys to drive the train and one of them doesn't show up... you get somebody else to drive that day. You don't turn the train over to just one of them and hope it doesn't derail. You bring in someone else until the team is back.
