REPUTATION RUINED FOR TURNING DOWN A JOB?
QUESTION FOR DAN O'DAY:
"A comment and a question about the stuff you wrote in How To Turn Down A Job Offer. Very good information, because I have often wondered how to handle that situation.
"I remember a situation where a guy accepted a job at a radio station and then turned it down. The general manager was very upset and said he would smear the jock's name in the industry.
"The GM was a jerk, but I wonder if you think in that situation the general manager had a right to be upset because the jock had in fact accepted a job and then turned it down a few days later?"
DAN REPLIES:
That's bound to be upsetting to the GM, but it happens.
All the more reason for the job-seeker not to give an immediate answer.
Although I understand why the GM was upset, threatening to smear the jock's name proves that the jock made the right decision in turning down that job.
