HOW DO YOU WRITE "OH!"
QUESTION FOR DAN O’DAY:
I was reading your latest OH! newsletter, which prompts me to ask you how you manage to write such interesting
stories about daily things that occur. I want to be able to do such things to make my on-air delivery more interesting.
DAN REPLIES:
(Note to our online readers: I realize this sounds like
a bogus question that I am including to flatter myself, but it
really did come from a PD.)
Well, thanks for the compliment. I think that all I do is:
- Find myself in stressful (yet common) situations
- Note my emotional reactions to them
- "Report" them by writing them down (by far the hardest part).
Also, I don't hesitate to exaggerate for dramatic or humorous
effect. And I assume if I had an emotional reaction to the incident,
other people will be able to relate to it.
