DO WE DROP THE LEVITY?
QUESTION FOR DAN O’DAY:
Recently we did a fundraiser on-the-air live on the morning show. It was a heart-breaking situation where a family's house burned down and their young son died in the fire. We raised about $1,500.
We usually do a cash giveaway a few times every morning - but my partner and I felt it was too upbeat to do while we were trying to raise money for a worthy cause. I wonder if you think all other "upbeat'"programming elements should be ditched in lieu of doing that kind of a fundraiser.
DAN REPLIES:
I think you made the right choice. Giving away cash for answering trivia questions (or whatever the giveaway mechanism) would have contradicted the sincerity of your fund-raising efforts.
