BACKTIMING QUESTION FOR DAN O’DAY: I have been in radio for a few years now, but I just recently started my first job as a radio jock. The station that I work for takes AP Network News at certain times throughout the day. I am having trouble with back timing into AP. Basically, all I have to do is find a song that fits the time I have left before AP, but for some reason it is never that easy. Any suggestions? DAN REPLIES: Try backtiming from 30 minutes prior to the news. It's a lot easier to find five songs that total 18.5 minutes (for example) than to find one that runs exactly 3:27.
