“Gee, I dunno. That ‘Voiceover Business’ class<\/strong><\/a> that Harlan Hogan and Dan O’Day are teaching sounds<\/strong> good, but I’ve been disappointed before by classes that made big promises they never kept. And maybe I’m even a bit afraid to jump in and actually do<\/strong> something; what if I don’t succeed? On the other hand, I’ve wanted to have a real voiceover career for so long now…”<\/em><\/p>\n

But there’s a slight possibility that I’m biased.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, these students from last year’s class couldn’t care less if you sign up. They’ve simply volunteered to share their own subjective experiences.<\/p>\n

John Wiik<\/h3>\n

“Before learning of this class, I believed that having a voiceover career meant constantly fighting for table scraps and doing mind numbing amounts of auditions that 95% of the time lead nowhere,<\/span> with no respect for my time or no idea of another direction to go.<\/p>\n

“I can honestly look myself in the mirror now and know that I have purchased the basic supplies (knowledge) to stand up and make a voiceover career happen. I owe that to Harlan, and especially Dan \u2014 who changed my life on a phone call and mentioned that he was working on this class and thought I should attend.<\/p>\n

“Harlan \u2014 you are a wonderful teacher, a truly gifted performer, and a pillar of our industry. Thank you for deciding to help more people equip themselves to stand up and improve their own lives. I have benefitted greatly from your stories and especially your class.<\/p>\n

“Dan, as always, thank you for the difference you make. You constantly work to improve everyone\u2019s life that you touch, and I know that you really are doing everything you do because you genuinely want to see everyone you meet become better than when you met them.<\/p>\n

“I will succeed in taking the next step because this class has shown me which direction to start walking.”<\/p>\n

Matthew Kendrick<\/h3>\n

“My VO career is very much in its infancy, and before The Voiceover Class, I was experiencing quite a bit of frustration because I wasn’t quite sure what my next move should be<\/span> (didn’t know which steps to take so I wasn’t taking any at all). Uncertainty was holding me back.<\/p>\n

“Thanks to you two gents, I now have several months’ worth of projects and planning lined up for myself. The list of information you two provided for me is a mile long, and I am excited to delve into it. “Aha moment: ‘It’s not how you sound but how you make the listener feel.’\u00a0 That helps so much in guiding me in my branding and how I’ll set myself apart.\u00a0 Hey, not only that but also in how I’ll approach copy in the future.\u00a0 I think I’ll print that phrase up and post it in my studio.<\/p>\n

“Since you mentioned that you both enjoy marketing so much (and I realize that you’ll be expanding that module the next time you present this class) have you given thought to a voiceover marketing consultation service? I\u00a0 know, I know… only so many hours in the day. It was just a thought.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for the inspiration and the tools necessary for us to go out there and get ’em! It truly made a big difference to me. I know I’ve said it a million times but it’s true: I now feel I can move forward. That’s a great feeling!<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m going to be feeling very weird next Monday…in a panic that I’ve missed my class.<\/p>\n

“Thank you again for patiently answering (and in some cases “re-answering”) our business questions. I consider the time and money to be well-spent.<\/p>\n

“I have new goals for accounting, expanded agent search, business savvy, improved web presence…<\/span>and at least some idea how to take the first faltering steps in those directions.<\/p>\n

“It was a particular thrill to have direct conversation with a voice talent whose work I have known and respected …and have that person giving me either new information or confirming my experience. I know I would never have the nerve to make direct, unsolicited contact…even though I’ve bought and enjoyed his books.<\/p>\n

“Again, thank you both so very much for making us feel like friends and colleagues, not mere customers.”<\/p>\n

Kerri Parr<\/h3>\n

“I can\u2019t thank you enough. I\u2019m blown away by all the preparation and unbelievable amount of information. I\u2019ve heard some of it before, but I\u2019m now able to understand it better, particularly incorporating, lawyers, accounting, invoicing, all great info. Everything has been very consistent and so well organized.<\/p>\n

“The homework assignments have helped me:
\n– to get more organized
\n– to make an action plan and TAKE ACTION on it by putting a date and time on them.
\n– to follow through on my voice over commitments
\n– to get in habit of doing tasks within 48 hours, especially because I can procrastinate. I really get it now – that I\u2019m losing out when I don\u2019t do them right away.
\n– know the competition, zero in on where I fit in, my strengths, and what I\u2019m passionate about
\n– target the best site (if any) for me to sign up with
\n–\u00a0 determine the best course of action toward moving forward in my career<\/p>\n

“I appreciated Jeffrey taking the time to provide all of us feedback and input. That was a lot of work! I will listen to the critiquing of the others asap – I know I will benefit from that as well. Thank you so much!<\/p>\n

“Knowing the non union pay rates gives me confidence to start making a living at VO sooner than I thought; union rates, something to aspire to. I appreciate hearing all the facts, and your not making a judgment on someone going fi core.<\/p>\n

“I have so much more to thank you for but in short, this class has been a voice over lifeline. I would like to stay connected somehow. One of the things I was missing and so needed before this class was a mentor. I\u2019m very proactive and will continue to do the work, but it would be helpful to be able to exchange experiences, advice, suggestions with others. Sounds like the Facebook group will be a great place to do that.<\/p>\n

“My current successes:
\n– I\u2019d love to do commercials, but I really love reading aloud. So I plan to focus on narration and audio books for now.
\n– I am committed to becoming successful and putting myself and my career first finally!
\n– I am becoming more involved, now that I have direction.<\/p>\n

“My future successes:
\n– I will redo my Web design.
\n– I will record my own narration demo and add it to my new website.
\n– I will host my own website and save the $500 from the two links I\u2019m now attached to.<\/p>\n

“There\u2019s so much more to say about everything I\u2019ve learned, the recording at home, the equipment, the endless possibilities! It\u2019s 12:50 am and I\u2019m still here.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m sorry for this class to end. I so looked forward to sitting in my ‘studio’ with you both each night. I felt very connected, like it\u2019s ok for me to be here! Sorry that\u2019s so sappy, it\u2019s just been a long frustrating struggle. You\u2019ve given me renewed energy and hope!<\/p>\n
