{"id":2590,"date":"2009-10-23T00:05:18","date_gmt":"2009-10-23T07:05:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=2590"},"modified":"2009-10-23T00:05:38","modified_gmt":"2009-10-23T07:05:38","slug":"radio-in-peoria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/radio-in-peoria\/","title":{"rendered":"O\u2019DAY\u2019S TRAVEL WOES #52: YOU CAN GET THERE FROM HERE, BUT YOU CAN&#8217;T GET BACK HERE FROM THERE."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>July, 1995:<\/strong> Illinois Broadcasters Association\u2019s <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Wally Gair<\/strong><\/span> became a Three O\u2019Timer as he brought me back to Peoria for two days of seminars <em>(Air Personality Plus+<\/em> and <em>How To Create Maximum Impact Radio Advertising).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I had a couple of interesting experiences driving from Chicago\u2019s O\u2019Hare Airport to Peoria and then back.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2591\" style=\"width: 324px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2591\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2591\" title=\"radio programming graphic\" src=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Peoria25.jpg\" alt=\"radio advertising graphic\" width=\"314\" height=\"224\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2591\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Note The Direct Route From O&#39;Hare To Peoria.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Experience #2: <\/strong><\/span> Do not assume that, when returning to O\u2019Hare from Peoria, you can simply reverse your directions.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see from this satellite view, although the highway going south from O\u2019Hare intersects the highway going west to Peoria, the highway going east from Peoria does <strong>not<\/strong> intersect the highway going north to O\u2019Hare.<\/p>\n<p>I learned this by overshooting the non-connecting highway by 30 miles.<\/p>\n<p>I had been so proud of myself for scheduling a leisurely, non-pressured drive back to the airport.
