During the past two years I’ve received 8 unsolicited bulk emails from this voice over person.<\/span><\/p>\n

A couple of friends of mine report receiving the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

It appears he diligently is sending them every three months.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Bad<\/a><\/p>\n

It’s almost certain that he bought a list “contacts” in the voice over industry<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Possibly some self-proclaimed marketing expert told him that’s a good way to market his services.<\/span><\/p>\n

(It isn’t.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, it establishes his position in the industry as “desperate for work” as well as “unprofessional.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, it’s spam.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Is All Spam Illegal?<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the U.S., spam (Unsolicited Bulk Email) is not illegal.<\/span><\/p>\n

But this guy’s spam is illegal.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Federal Trade Commission’s CAN-SPAM Act<\/a> requires the sender to “include your valid physical postal address” to “tell recipients where you’re located.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This spam doesn’t include a physical postal address.<\/span><\/p>\n

CAN-SPAM also requires senders to “tell recipients how to opt out of receiving future email from you.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This spam doesn’t offer any sort of “opt out” mechanism.<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s 2 violations of federal law in one ineffective, image-damaging email.<\/span><\/p>\n

A couple of friends of mine report receiving the same unwanted emails…<\/span><\/p>\n

…by forwarding them to me with comments such as “Good grief!” \u2014 along with the occasional expletive.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m guessing this guy just doesn’t know better.<\/span><\/p>\n
