{"id":19040,"date":"2016-04-07T00:14:22","date_gmt":"2016-04-07T07:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=19040"},"modified":"2016-04-07T00:14:22","modified_gmt":"2016-04-07T07:14:22","slug":"radio-remotes-real-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/radio-remotes-real-estate\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Radio Station Lesson from Real Estate Agents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/store.danoday.com\/radio-street-level-marketing-by-paige-nienaber-2-cd-set\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19043\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19043 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/business_icon_group_7729-320.png\" alt=\"Radio Remote Broadcasts guidelines\" width=\"320\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/business_icon_group_7729-320.png 320w, https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/business_icon_group_7729-320-300x263.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a>Our theme this week appears to be &#8220;Lessons Radio Stations Can Learn from Sloppy Real Estate People.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">On Sunday I looked at a few &#8220;Open Houses&#8221; in the Los Angeles area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In case you&#8217;re not familiar with the term, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/o\/open-house.asp\">Investopedia<\/a> defines &#8220;open house&#8221; as &#8220;a scheduled period of time in which a house or other dwelling is designated to be open for viewing for potential buyers.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">At one of the houses I visited, when I walked in a smartly dressed woman separated herself from the man and woman (apparently prospects) she was speaking with, introduced herself as the real estate agent, and handed me a flyer that described the property for sale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Then she returned to her conversation with the couple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The house wasn&#8217;t occupied. No furniture. Hardwood floors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">With nothing to absorb sound, the resulting acoustics made it so a normal speaking voice could be heard throughout the house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The agent and the couple were talking and laughing so loudly that, with those acoustics, I literally couldn&#8217;t hear anything the person who accompanied me said to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">We wandered around the house for a couple of minutes and then gave up; the noise was unbearable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">As we headed for the door, the trio turned to me and the man jovially said, <em>&#8220;We accept cash, y&#8217;know!&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">It was then I understood:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">They weren&#8217;t a real estate agent and two prospects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">They were three real estate agents. Colleagues. Co-workers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">When I realized I was being driven away by the overbearing sounds of 3 representatives of the same agency, my astonishment quickly was followed by anger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">It was only with great restraint that I refrained from saying, <em>&#8220;The three of you are here because you&#8217;re representing the seller of this house and instead of speaking to prospects, you&#8217;re talking only to each other? In voices so loud that potential buyers can&#8217;t hear themselves think??&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Instead, I just started at the 3 of them and left, shaking my head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I won&#8217;t identify the real estate company. Let&#8217;s just say those 3 agents didn&#8217;t represent the pinnacle of professionalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What Does That Have to Do with Radio?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">How many <a href=\"http:\/\/store.danoday.com\/radio-street-level-marketing-by-paige-nienaber-e-book\/\">radio station remotes<\/a> (aka &#8220;Outside Broadcasts&#8221;) have you seen where the station&#8217;s promotional staff (yes, some may be interns) stick together in a tight cluster \u2014 a closed circle that excludes the listeners, the fans, the P1s who cared enough to come to that live event?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Each time you&#8217;ve witnessed that, you&#8217;ve seen the results of a promotions director not doing his\/her job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If you&#8217;re in charge of <a href=\"http:\/\/store.danoday.com\/great-radio-promotions-contests-by-dan-oday-e-book\/\">promotions at your radio station<\/a> (Promotions Director, Program Director, etc.), it&#8217;s <strong>your<\/strong> responsibility to make sure that all onsite representatives of your station understand that they are doing just that: representing your radio station.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our theme this week appears to be &#8220;Lessons Radio Stations Can Learn from Sloppy Real Estate People.&#8221; On Sunday I looked at a few &#8220;Open Houses&#8221; in the Los Angeles area.
