If their goal is to get offers in front of their most avid customers, then having some people unsubscribe because they don&#8217;t want so many offers is just part of the marketing system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Or, it should be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">But Best Buy is the only &#8220;reputable&#8221; company I&#8217;ve encountered that doesn&#8217;t include an &#8220;unsubscribe&#8221; option in their emails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">How To Get Off Best Buy&#8217;s Email List<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Want to get off their list? Here&#8217;s what you do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong> Search their emails repeatedly for the unsubscribe link that you know must be there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>2.\u00a0<\/strong> When you realize there&#8217;s no unsubscribe option in the email, shake your head in bewilderment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>3.\u00a0<\/strong> Go their website and log into your account to unsubscribe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>4.\u00a0<\/strong> Shake your head in bewilderment when you discover there is no unsubscribe option in your account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>5.\u00a0<\/strong> Search their website for &#8220;how to unsubscribe.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>6.\u00a0<\/strong> Shake your head in bewilderment when you can find no explanatory reference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>7.\u00a0<\/strong> Go back to your profile to cancel your account entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>8.<\/strong> Shake your head in bewilderment when you discover there is no &#8220;cancel my account&#8221; option.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>9.\u00a0<\/strong> Keep searching until you find the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestbuy.com\/site\/global\/null\/pcmcat311100050001.c?id=pcmcat311100050001&amp;type=category&amp;id=pcmcat311100050001\">&#8220;My Best Buy Terms&#8221; page.<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>10.<\/strong>\u00a0 Notice how thrilled you are to discover 2,852 words, published in 4-point type. (In other words, they&#8217;d rather you not read the &#8220;terms.&#8221;)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>11.<\/strong>\u00a0 After magnifying the page, make your way to, &#8220;#7 Membership Cancellation.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Notice that they give you two methods to cancel:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">a) Via email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">a1) Notice that they don&#8217;t give you an email address to use to cancel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">b) Via telephone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">b1) Notice that they list only their vanity phone number. It&#8217;s your job to translate it into a numeric phone number.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">b2) Reel in shock as you realize, <em>&#8220;In order to stop getting their emails, I have to call their general Customer Service line.&#8221; <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>12.<\/strong>\u00a0 Reflect, for a moment, on how low &#8220;calling a large retailer&#8217;s Customer Service line&#8221; is on your list of &#8220;Things I Enjoy Doing.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>13.<\/strong> Shake your head in amazement at the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.marketwatch.com\/behindthestorefront\/2014\/01\/16\/best-buy-stock-dives-after-what-ceo-calls-a-speed-bump\/\">statement<\/a> by Best Buy&#8217;s Chief Executive Officer, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Hubert Joly<\/strong><\/span>, that the company is &#8220;working on personalized marketing messages to better compete with the likes of Amazon.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>14.\u00a0<\/strong> Ask yourself, &#8220;When&#8217;s the last time Amazon.com made me regret sharing my contact information with them?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>15.<\/strong>\u00a0 Try not to act surprised when you learn that Best Buy&#8217;s stock price is about half of where it was just three months ago. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Then&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Examine every encounter your radio station has with its listeners and its advertisers or supporters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">And make sure you&#8217;re not providing your customers with a &#8220;Best Buy Moment.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I analyzed the idiocy of a restaurant&#8217;s alienating its &#8220;P1&#8221; guests with a happy hour promotion.
