{"id":14939,"date":"2013-06-19T00:18:35","date_gmt":"2013-06-19T07:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=14939"},"modified":"2013-06-19T00:18:35","modified_gmt":"2013-06-19T07:18:35","slug":"how-to-be-creative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/how-to-be-creative\/","title":{"rendered":"HOW TO BE CREATIVE IN RADIO\u2026Even When You Don\u2019t Feel Like It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Recently a reporter, interviewing me about radio advertising, asked me for some quick &#8220;sidebar&#8221; tips on &#8220;how to be creative.&#8221; Here are three.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">These apply apply equally to <a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/personality\">radio personalities <\/a>and producers, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/original-copywriting\/\">radio copywriters<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1.<\/span> Whenever you get even the germ of an idea, write it down. You don&#8217;t need to know <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">how<\/span> you&#8217;ll use that idea; you&#8217;ll have plenty of time to figure that out later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">But most people won&#8217;t bother to put an idea to paper unless they already know exactly how they&#8217;ll use it. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Big mistake.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> 2.<\/span> Don&#8217;t try to be creative. Focus on solving a problem. Creativity should not be the goal; it should be the means to an end.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">3. <\/span> When all else fails, go somewhere you&#8217;ve never been before. Anywhere, as long as it&#8217;s unfamiliar to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">As you react to new stimuli, you will be forced to think differently&#8230;which is a great shortcut to creative solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">There&#8217;s an old saying in psychology circles:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><i>&#8220;If you keep doing what you always do, you&#8217;ll keep getting what you always get. So if you want to get something new, do something different.&#8221;<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">That&#8217;s more than just a catchy pop psychology mantra. It&#8217;s true.
