How To Convert Downloads To Money<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

In case you don’t know the story: I never dreamed of\u00a0 creating my own iPhone app. Being non-technical, the idea\u00a0 never even occurred to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then a friend of a friend asked if I’d help promote his apps- making course. I told him I never recommend anything\u00a0 without examining the product firsthand, so he gave me full\u00a0 access to his course.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon I realized, “Wow, I really\u00a0could<\/strong>\u00a0publish an app.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Almost immediately I had an idea for an app that simply\u00a0 didn’t exist elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I knew that was\u00a0not<\/strong>\u00a0a good\u00a0 sign (it’s much smarter to choose an existing market), it\u00a0 seemed like such an obvious (and handy) idea that I decided\u00a0 to give it a try.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the instructions in that original apps course, I\u00a0 began in December, 2011. I released my PhotoVoice<\/a> app in\u00a0 February, 2012…despite approximately 3 weeks “down\u00a0 time” for the holidays, New Year’s, and a week-long seminar\u00a0 trip to Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since then:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0– PhotoVoice has been downloaded in 72 countries. <\/span><\/p>\n

– Apple says as of April 30, 2013, it’s been downloaded\u00a0 15,349 times. (Apple hasn’t yet updated my “stats” from\u00a0 May.)<\/span><\/p>\n

– PhotoVoice has been featured in the “What’s Hot” listings\u00a0 in the iTunes stores in the United Kingdom, Australia, New\u00a0 Zealand, France, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Croatia,\u00a0 Iceland, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the\u00a0 former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (that’s how it’s listed\u00a0 in the App Store).<\/span><\/p>\n

– I’ve been approached by a European app maker to do a\u00a0 joint venture, and a company in Texas contacted me to see\u00a0 if they could pay me to create an app for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me repeat that: I’ve made\u00a0one\u00a0app, and a U.S.\u00a0 company wanted to hire me to make one for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Something I never anticipated: You wouldn’t believe how\u00a0 impressed people are when they learn I created my own\u00a0 iPhone app. They look at me in awe\u2014 probably because to\u00a0 most people it sounds like such an impossibly complicated\u00a0 thing to do.<\/span><\/p>\n

My Confession<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When I created PhotoVoice, I didn’t know HALF of what\u00a0 Chad teaches in his new apps-making program<\/a>. (I knew maybe 10%.)<\/span><\/p>\n

I gave very little thought to “monetizing” my app. I just \u00a0 impulsively jumped into it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Y’see, I keep jumping around from project to project. (The\u00a0 way I work always reminds me of those plate-spinning\u00a0 people we used to see on TV variety shows.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Imagine how much more successful PhotoVoice would be if\u00a0 I’d followed a real plan…a formula for success. <\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe you’re like me, and having just one successful app\u00a0 would be rewarding enough for you.<\/span><\/p>\n
