{"id":12599,"date":"2012-05-15T00:01:08","date_gmt":"2012-05-15T07:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=12599"},"modified":"2012-05-14T15:41:21","modified_gmt":"2012-05-14T22:41:21","slug":"inane-radio-contest-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/inane-radio-contest-rule\/","title":{"rendered":"AN INANE RADIO CONTEST RULE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s something that a lot of radio stations do that always has struck me as&#8230;well, dumb:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><object type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" data=\"http:\/\/www.siteproweb.com\/player\/audioplayer.swf\" width=\"260\" height=\"24\" id=\"audioplayer1\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.trafficgeyser.net\/player\/audioplayer.swf\"><\/param><param name=\"FlashVars\" value=\"playerID=1&amp;autostart=no&amp;bg=0xf8f8f8&amp;leftbg=0xeeeeee&amp;lefticon=0x666666&amp;rightbg=0xcccccc&amp;rightbghover=0x999999&amp;righticon=0x666666&amp;righticonhover=0xFFFFFF&amp;text=0x666666&amp;slider=0x666666&amp;track=0xFFFFFF&amp;border=0x666666&amp;loader=0x9FFFB8&amp;soundFile=http%3A%2F%2Fdanoday.com%2Fblogaudio%2FKCBSContestRules.mp3\"><\/param><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\"><\/param><param name=\"menu\" value=\"false\"><\/param><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#FFFFFF\"><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t want to allow employees, advertisers, etc., to win your contests because doing so would threaten the integrity (perceived or actual) of the contest.<\/p>\n<p>But why would you prohibit someone who works for a competing station from winning?<\/p>\n<p>If a competitor&#8217;s employee were to win one of my station&#8217;s contests, I&#8217;d immediately start running promos highlighting the fact that <em>&#8220;While Bob Smith is paid to WORK at Radio X, when he wants to hear the best of today&#8217;s hit music he LISTENS to (Our Station).&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And banning <strong>family members<\/strong> of anyone who works for a competing station?<\/p>\n<p>So&#8230;.48-year old Mary Smythe works as a bookkeeper for a local News\/Talk station, and her 19-year old son, Matthew, is a loyal listener to my modern rock station.
