{"id":11507,"date":"2011-11-14T00:01:13","date_gmt":"2011-11-14T08:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=11507"},"modified":"2011-11-10T00:11:45","modified_gmt":"2011-11-10T08:11:45","slug":"hyundai-sonata-commercial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/hyundai-sonata-commercial\/","title":{"rendered":"MONDAY COMMERCIAL SMACKDOWN: Hyundai Sonata"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to <strong>John Marshall <\/strong>for alerting me to this commercial.<\/p>\n<p>First, the advertisement.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4JvMklkqsew?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>They spent most of this commercial showing examples of dead batteries in daily life \u2014 apparently because they assume the concept of &#8220;dead battery&#8221; is difficult for the consumer to understand.<\/p>\n<p>Then they rely on words \u2014 not visual images \u2014 to &#8220;sell&#8221; Hyundai&#8217;s message.<\/p>\n<p>What should they have done instead?<\/p>\n<p>Easy: After establishing the &#8220;dead battery&#8221; theme, show us a solitary car \u2014 a Hyundai \u2014 remaining in a huge stadium parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>At night.<\/p>\n<p>Very late.<\/p>\n<p>One person rapidly approaches the vehicle, warily scanning the empty lot as he (or she) climbs into the driver&#8217;s seat.<\/p>\n<p>His hand on the ignition key, and then a pause, as he holds his breath.<\/p>\n<p>The engine starts flawlessly, and he drives away serenely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hint #1:<\/strong> Show us the results Hyundai&#8217;s wonderful batteries promise drivers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hint #2:<\/strong> People don&#8217;t worry about their car battery suddenly dying when it&#8217;s safely parked in front of their homes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to John Marshall for alerting me to this commercial.
