{"id":11417,"date":"2011-11-03T00:01:51","date_gmt":"2011-11-03T07:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=11417"},"modified":"2011-11-02T20:23:51","modified_gmt":"2011-11-03T03:23:51","slug":"radio-phoners-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/radio-phoners-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"RADIO PHONERS TIPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A young radio jock asked me to comment on his <a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/critique\">aircheck<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of my remarks might be useful to someone you know&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong> My biggest suggestion is that you infuse your delivery with a bit more energy.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t mean you should sound hyped or phony, just a bit more intense.<\/p>\n<p>It sounds as though you&#8217;re sitting back in your chair. If so, sit up straight and then lean into the mic a bit, tensing your stomach muscles (i.e., tightening your diaphragm).<\/p>\n<p>That change in your physicality will increase the alertness and intensity of your voice because your body <strong>will<\/strong> be more alert.<\/p>\n<p>Sounding casual is good; sounding bored isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0<\/strong> When you&#8217;re talking to a caller on-air, your voice tone should alter to reflect that of the caller.<\/p>\n<p>Do you use the same voice tonality when talking to your mother as when talking to your best friend, your girlfriend, or a prospective employer?<\/p>\n<p>Probably not.<\/p>\n<p>Is the caller excited, but you still sound completely laid-back? How about letting some of her excitement inform your own vocal delivery?<\/p>\n<p>Is the caller whispering? Maybe you should respond in a more confidential, personal tone.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not talking about &#8220;pretending&#8221; or &#8220;mimicking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m talking about establishing rapport with your callers and thereby making the conversations more interesting to your mass audience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A young radio jock asked me to comment on his aircheck.
