A radio story from radio legend Gary Owens<\/span>….<\/p>\n

I used to have a running battle at KMPC about the air conditioning. <\/p>\n

We had three separate booths from which the disc jockeys broadcast. Invariably, during the hot summer months the air conditioning in mine was always on the fritz. <\/p>\n

I\u2019d walk down the hall and it would be 72 degrees; in my booth it would be about 87. I\u2019d work in my t-shirt, and I\u2019d be perspiring and I couldn\u2019t think, and nothing would be done.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d ask each day, \u201cIs the air conditioning fixed?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, they tell us it\u2019s going to be taken care of today.\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n

Three months it went on.<\/p>\n

So one day I came in and was doing \u201cbad air conditioning jokes\u201d on the air: \u201cBecause our air conditioning doesn\u2019t work, it\u2019s so hot in here that…\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

And they sent a man over from KTLA-TV. He said, \u201cMr. Owens, I\u2019m here to fix the air conditioning.\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n

I said, \u201cThank God you\u2019re here!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

He walked around to where my engineer, Bud Stalker, was. Stalker was playing the cartridges and stuff, and suddenly Stalker starts laughing. He said to me, \u201cYou won\u2019t believe what just happened!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

I said, \u201cI\u2019ll believe anything.\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n

\u201cThe man walked over here,\u201d<\/span> he said, \u201cand the record was playing. He reached over and <\/span>turned down the on-air monitor knob…and then he said, \u2018Is that any cooler?\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
