{"id":10706,"date":"2011-08-12T00:01:09","date_gmt":"2011-08-12T07:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/?p=10706"},"modified":"2011-08-11T23:07:10","modified_gmt":"2011-08-12T06:07:10","slug":"travel-stories-essex-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/travel-stories-essex-england\/","title":{"rendered":"O\u2019DAY\u2019S TRAVEL WOES #118: Really, Really Sick in Essex, England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>December 1997<\/strong> (continued)<strong>: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My final trip of the year took me first to England and then to Germany.<\/p>\n<p>My first stop was Harlow, England, where <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Paul Chantler<\/strong><\/span> had arranged for me to present <a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/seminars\"><em>Air Personality Plus+<\/em><\/a> for the crew of <strong>Essex Radio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10710\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/store\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10710\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10710  \" title=\"Chicken and Chestnut Pie\" src=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/ChickenChestnutPie.jpg\" alt=\"British cooking\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/ChickenChestnutPie.jpg 200w, https:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/ChickenChestnutPie-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chicken &amp; Chestnut Pie<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Upon my arrival, Paul took me out for a very traditional (and tasty) English dinner of chicken &amp; chestnut pie. Suddenly I realized where we Americans get our &#8220;pot pie&#8221; tradition.<\/p>\n<p>Someone on the 10-hour flight from Los Angeles must&#8217;ve had a flu bug (and subsequently shared it with the rest of us passengers), because I awoke the next morning with a terrible, debilitating cough.<\/p>\n<p>I hacked my way through the morning sessions of the seminar and decided to forego lunch in favor of an impromptu visit to a local medical clinic, where a <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Dr. Singh<\/strong><\/span> prescribed some heavy-duty medication for me.<\/p>\n<p>Oddly, when I began the afternoon sessions I already felt much better&#8230;even though there hadn&#8217;t yet been enough time for the medicine to take effect. I truly think the genuine sympathy and concern I was receiving from the Essex Radio attendees sent some sort of healing message to my soul (and throat).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10716\" style=\"width: 205px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/mp3seminars\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10716\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10716 \" title=\"The Gables Restaurant Harlow Essex\" src=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/TheGables.jpg\" alt=\"British restaurants Essex\" width=\"195\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10716\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Gables<\/p><\/div>\n<p>That evening, I accompanied Paul and three of his programme controllers to <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>The Gables<\/strong><\/span>, a lovely old, charming restaurant. With the seminar-induced adrenalin supply suddenly shut off, I wasn&#8217;t in the best physical condition.<\/p>\n<p>But it nonetheless was a very pleasant way to mark the end of my stay in Essex.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 1997 (continued): My final trip of the year took me first to England and then to Germany.
