AD CAMPAIGN SACRIFICES &#8220;SELLING&#8221; FOR &#8220;CREATIVE&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/CarlsJr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-10370\" title=\"Carls Jr. advertising campaign\" src=\"http:\/\/danoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/CarlsJr-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Carl's Jr. ad campaign chicken sandwich\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Here&#8217;s a very expensive television commercial, very &#8220;creative,&#8221; interesting to look at.<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly it will win some awards, which is good for the ad agency that produced it because that will attract more business to that agency.<\/p>\n<p>Only one problem&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jxv8dGOccwU?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;If machines can&#8217;t eat it, machines shouldn&#8217;t make it.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Why not?<\/p>\n<p>Is that really a criterion by which you decide whether to eat a chicken sandwich \u2014 whether it was breaded by a machine or by a human hand?<\/p>\n<p>They could just as well say, <em>&#8220;If machines can&#8217;t drive it, machines shouldn&#8217;t make it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or, <em>&#8220;If machines can&#8217;t drink it, machines shouldn&#8217;t make it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The entire focus of this attention getting, visually interesting campaign is completely unrelated to any real reason that someone should choose a Carl&#8217;s Jr. chicken fillet sandwich over that of any competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, it&#8217;ll win awards. Ad agencies fall all over themselves praising their own work for being &#8220;creative.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s very unlikely that seeing the sandwich smash into the robot&#8217;s mouth made you want to eat a Carl&#8217;s Jr. chicken fillet sandwich.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a very expensive television commercial, very &#8220;creative,&#8221; interesting to look at.
