First, the radio commercial….

As usual, this restaurant radio commercial tries to say too many things and, as a result, ends up saying nothing.

– You can see the Queen Mary

– It’s at Parker’s Lighthouse in Long Beach

– You can enjoy “supper club dining”

– Great steaks

– Fine wines

– Live music

– And here’s our phone number twice. Because unlike most people, when you hear about a new restaurant you immediately call to make a reservation.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world checks out the restaurant online…if the rest of the world knows where to find the restaurant’s website.

The Queensview Steakhouse does have a website.

No, the website isn’t very good:

Hint to restaurants: Diners want to view your menu online, not to download a PDF version.

Hint: One of the most common reasons people visit a restaurant website is to find the address. Don’t make them search for it; feature it on your home page.

On the other hand, the home page features a video that uses a fuller version of that musical theme. The video does a  good job of bringing to life the images so ineffectively alluded to in the radio voice over.

New restaurant with a website with a video that “sells” the experience it offers? This radio commercial should have been used to drive traffic to the website.

September, 1997 (continued):

My visit to Sweden continued with a two-hour drive to Norrköping with Hakkan (NRJ’s Stockholm music director) and Henri Paul (from France). The trip was both extremely uncomfortable and rather embarrassing for me.

About one hour into the drive, I became increasingly uncomfortable. It couldn’t be carsickness; I had carefully taken Dramamine before leaving the hotel. But I felt worse and worse.

When we were just 15 minutes away from our destination, I asked Hakkan to pull over. I knelt down at the side of the road for ten minutes while Henri used the occasion to smoke (he had graciously refrained while I was in the car).

Finally we decided to move on, got into the car (an Audi, borrowed by Hakkan from NRJ), Hakkan started the ignition…and then we heard a computerized voice: “Warning: The engine has been disengaged. Consult your owner’s manual,” and the engine went dead.

This happened several times. We couldn’t find the owner’s manual, which we assumed was in a glove compartment…but we couldn’t even find the glove compartment!

Finally we got out of the car, got back in, started it up…and sped away before that damn voice could catch us.

Vildmarkshotellet

The Vildmarkshotellet(hotel) is located on the grounds of Sweden’s largest zoo. I made it to my room around at 6:00PM, drank some water, flopped onto the bed while waiting for 7:00 when restaurant would be open for dinner… and slept until 5:00 the following morning.

Actually, I awakened after a few hours, noticed a boxing match on the tv set I had left silently on, watched the match, then went back to sleep. The bout was on Eurosport, with commentary by an incredibly annoying British announcer:

“The German fighter keeps moving to his left, which is exactly the wrong thing to do against someone whose best punch is his right. I’m sorry, but I just get so cross when I see such blatant ignorance of the fundamentals of boxing!”

Next: The return of my appetite…Its second sudden disappearance…. Cloudberries….and What The Maid Did In My Room While I Was Sleeping.

FREE VIDEOS ABOUT…HOW TO MAKE VIDEOS

how to create online videos

He used video to sell this stuff online.

I know a guy who made a bunch of money selling weird stuff online. For example, swords.

He’s a very talented guy. A good guy. But…uh, a little strange.

For example, his penchant for wearing a Viking (not the sports team) helmet.

He’s released a four-part video series that teaches you how to make online videos quickly, easily, and cheaply (even for free).

Why is he being so generous?

After teaching you tons of great free stuff, he’ll probably give you a chance to buy something. If you buy something from him via this link I’m giving you, he’ll even give me some pathetic crumb of a sales commission.

But you can watch every minute of the four-part video series, learn a lot of useful stuff, and even be entertained (I like his “disclaimers” in Video #1) without buying a darn thing from him.

And in at least one of the videos, you’ll see him wearing that stupid Viking hat.
