All agreed, Dan. But let’s really get to the crux of the problem. These spots are being written with 10 seconds of thought from an overworked Production Director with 15 more orders on his plate to get recorded by COB because he is now the only commercial producer on the staff and must get copy out to his “paid voices” by 10 am in order to have them back in time to produce them in the afternoon. Or else, they’re written by a salesperson who simply takes copy ideas from the client, cuts and pastes and sends them on to be produced.
As an audience……….I’d like to hear real testimonials from Real People and not produced plastic voice deliveries. They all sound the same. :+(((

Oh yeah…and let’s talk about 15 second spots I get written by the salesperson on a program that calculates the run time…and sends me a spot with phone numbers repeated and long website addresses totaling 21 to 24 seconds…and then says to me, “Can’t you just talk fast”?
I’ve got to commend the VO person, though. She did the best she could with what she had to work with. It’s tough, if not impossible to infuse a performance with emotion when you have to squeeze 23 seconds of crap into a 15.
Huh? Oh…it’s not a water park? Sorry kids!
