ADVERTISING ON THE RADIO A LOT DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN EXPERT

radio advertising expertEver run into a client — oh, maybe a car dealer — who spends lots & lots of money on advertising and therefore considers himself to be an advertising “expert”?

This is a true story.

A while ago someone mentioned a mutual friend, a successful TV producer.

“Stevie’s a great blackjack player, you know,” I was told.

As a former serious and successful blackjack player, this surprised me.

“Really?” I said.

“Yes. Last weekend he went to Vegas and lost $50,000!”

I swear that’s a true story.

Doing it a lot doesn’t mean you’re an expert. It just means you do it a lot.

A lady I knew once said that her and her son had visited a restaurant (a very popular and excellent one) and the son said that the food was dreadful! ‘He should know! He’s a professional chef!’ My retort of ‘Doesn’t mean he’s any good at it!’ caused them both to walk out of the bar and to never be seen again!
