THE GREATEST GIFT A RADIO PROGRAM DIRECTOR CAN GIVE TO AN ON-AIR TALENT

Gary Owens

Years ago at a PD Grad School, I asked Gary Owens what it was like to have Chuck Blore as a program director at KFWB/Los Angeles — back when KFWB had 47% of the L.A. radio audience.

At that time, remember, Gary had the #1 morning show in L.A., a brilliant wit, an innovative mind, and an amazing voice. (Still true today for all of his personal attributes.)

His answer?

“He made us feel like we could do anything!”

And so they did.

The greatest gift a PD can give to an air talent is….

Confidence.

This is the best message i have come across in a while. In Uganda we have a PD who instead does the opposite. he does not keep any personal info about a presenter to himself. recently our colleague found out that he has the HIV Virus. he decided to confide in this PD who decided to publish the info to whoever cared. He is insensitive and lacks logical values and its unfortunate he’s my PD.
