There have been many terrific radio personalities. A number of truly great ones.
But only one radio genius: Kenny Everett.
Here’s a 10-minute video sampling. His line about “When I played a record…” is one of the all-time greatest radio lines.

Kenny co-presented the breakfast show on Capital Radio in the 70s and it was dangerous radio – I was often late because I couldn’t stop listening
A true original. Wouldn’t get a job today though – I can’t see him being restricted to 20 seconds before the next 30 minute music mix of the same tracks by the same artists
All Britsh DJs owe it all to Kenny. He was the Beatles, we’re just Monkees.
Brilliant talent. Could act, write, sing, produce and relate to celebs and audience. Few opportunities for talent to learn and deliver that today. I remember other fun ensemble troupes in the western US like Dick Whittinghill, Sweet Dick Whittington, and Gary Owens. Even Rick Dees has his ensemble, skits, parodies, call-ins and events. I yearn for radio to return to real entertainment.
A truly creative talent. Audio magic. I wouldn’t hesitate to put this on the radio today, of course PPM would have me fired but I would be having fun in the process!
