Perhaps my favorite radio convention moment ever: The Country Radio Seminar, 1991.
(Well, the time my shoulder dislocated at that same event eight years later also was pretty memorable…)
Laurie DeYoung demonstrates the concept of “personality.” Amazing it took male program directors so long to recognize hers.

That was fantastic, Dan! I recently started hosting my own–granted, midday–show after many years of being either just news or news/sidekick.
I can so relate to so many things she said. For example, thinking you are really contributing something to a morning show, only to realize a lot of listeners barely notice you!
After years of listening of various consultants pontificate on various conflicting opinions, I echo Laurie’s exclamation: “Just let me be ME!” I’m convinced that’s what listeners really connect with, anyway.
Thanks for recognizing the worth of women in this industry, and thanks for sharing such helpful info.
