“But,” a Loyal Reader asks, “what is The Nine Tape?”
You mean the inspired bit of radio history that was created by Howard Hoffman, Amos B. Moses, Pete Salant and Randy West?
Here. Listen.
Now watch the video where Hoffman just can’t stop talking about it.

Thanks Dan – I couldn’t find my old aircheck tape from many moons ago with this on it – and took great pleasure playing it to the “young ‘uns” around the station – thanks for the trip back down memory lane, and honestly I don’t know what Howard has to complain about?
I still have a copy of that somewhere.
Oh wonderful 9 radio. A quick update. Several years ago 9 was purchased by a national communications chain. Middays, evenings and weekends are now voice-tracked by out of state talent that have never seen the 9 studios. Saturday morning’s popular top 9 at 9 has been replaced by a prostate infomercial due to lagging sales and most recently the morning man was fired because he makes too much money. RIP 9 radio.
Ironic in that we do a feature called “The Nineties at 9.”
living 1 just mile from Pound Ridge New York (so clearly in the metro), i can tell you that we truly miss 9!
Rob! Good morning! NINE!”
Ah! Pondrige what a place…..Thank you Howard Hoffman
Now you need to follow this up with the sequel…99!
If you haven’t heard it…you should!
God bless Howard Hoffman!
very funny
A Sequel!! 99! Wow – I’ll have to search to find it.
Still chuckling about 9 even now
couldn’t get the “9 radio” audio to stream, would you please check it
thank you
@Barry: The browser you’re using (probably IE for Windows) doesn’t have its settings set to process the flash application file and/or is using a default security setting so high that it won’t let you connect to the flash page.
Easiest thing for you to do is try it on a different browser; odds are overwhelming it will work.
Less easy approach is to take a look at your current browser security settings.
I was searching for “99” done about 15 years ago and stumbled upon this
