"STARTING YOUR VOICEOVER BUSINESS" Q&A REVIEWS (Week Two)

Each Tuesday of Harlan Hogan’s month-long STARTING YOUR VOICEOVER BUSINESS: Everything You Need To Know To Turn Your Dream Or Your Sideline Into A Business teleseminar series includes an open-ended Q&A session.

Here’s what our students had to say about the one we completed tonight.

Outstanding Q&A session. It cleared up many of the questionable items
from Monday and expanded on some of the ideas. Great information. The
shopping list is coming together! Thanks.

I really appreciated this Q and A. Being a geek and an audio guy for a long time, I knew what I was supposed to do—now I have a much clearer picture of why. That means so much, and I really appreciate the patience and mentorship. Listening to Harlan, (and Dan, too) I’m really hearing the determination to help us learn and do this stuff ourselves and succeed with it.

Again I have to say this was a great session! The product information and tech stuff had me just a bit loopy (I’m glad I already have a major chunk of what I need) but I did get some good ideas for the portable setup when the time comes to build one.

For me the info on the demos was especially great! And I really have to say thanks for the last bit about finding your voice brand. While you were discussing it I had an idea for one for my own, based on the kind of voiceover I had been doing in radio. I’m not going to say what it is yet because I still might consider other ideas but so far I like what I have. When the marketing seminar comes down I’ll be sure to discuss it further.

Thanks again, this is worth every penny and then some!

The Q & A sessions are a great idea…just like last week, tonight's session really helped to clarify Monday's topics, especially mic, computer and demo issues. I checked out some of the mics Harlan mentioned and will be buying a new more voiceover friendly one tomorrow and selling my RE-20. I know that Harlan went through the tweaking of the mp3s for the internet, and although I didn't catch all of it, I'll check out the Facebook page to see if it is posted there (I do better when I see it in print).

Great call tonight. You answered questions I didn’t know I had…until I heard someone else ask, and thought – wow, I want to know that too! Great discussions on voice branding, ISDN, audio software, microphones…to name a few. Glad we have the Facebook group to continue to talk about our experiences, and share. I’m looking forward to being connected with these folks for a long time to come.

Being a newbie, I feel this course is really accelerating my learning curve. Good stuff!

Once again thanks for putting on a great session.  As a complete newbie to the business I feel I have gained much knowledge over the past two weeks and feel like there is so much more to learn!  I was so inspired that I decided to take some action towards starting my voice over business that I some of the equipment to get my home studio outfitted so I can begin to start honing my craft.  Based on your recommendations I purchased the following items this evening:
    • MXL 909 Condenser Microphone
    • Monster Cable S-100 XLR Microphone Cable
    • CEntrance MicPort Pro
    • Musicians Gear Tripod Desk Mic Stand
    • Pop Filter
Most of the other essentials I already have.  The only other thing I am debating on is whether to purchase a Port-A-Booth or build one myself but I am going to make up my mind about it tomorrow.   Now the only bad part is waiting for the equipment to arrive.  Thanks for all your help and advice, I feel like I am getting off on the right foot and know I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the knowledge I have gained from the course.

Thanks to you I am finally taking some action and it feels great!

I enjoyed tonight’s class very much and really had some surprises as to what equipment is actually is just fine to use and what isn’t. Also I noted the further elaboration on the ISDN mode of sending one’s work to a client and the information and precautions concerning demos was very important.

Also I liked the additional information on mics and I appreciated the back stories about what was used in the past and how it compares with today’s various mic types.
