ENTRIES #11, 12, 13: Make A Better "Target" Radio Commercial Contest

Per the long-standing tradition of This Blog, whenever I need a striking visual to add to my breathtaking prose I turn to my Tuesday Weld archives. This photo is from the film (which I enjoyed even when she wasn’t on-screen), ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA.

We have 21 more entries to consider before rendering the Final Judgment in my groundbreaking, earth shattering (kind of the same thing, no?)…uh, turf tearing “Can You Write Better Than This Junk” contest.

That means 3 per day through Saturday, March 21. With the exception of Sunday — which, of course, is reserved for the solemnly traditional Bobby Ocean Radio Cartoon.

Many of the contestants have remarked that the challenge alone has been fun for them. So when you mercilessly attack their spots, you might want to remember that we’re all at different skill and experience levels. And we’re all trying our best.

Okay, judges, what do you think?

I liked Gary’s a LOT. I liked how he tied in the nature motif with the notion of living in a “concrete jungle”…and the tagline was particularly simple, yet still creative enough so as to not sound to like a trite pun; “Target your home today”. Best of the three, I’d say.

Micheal’s wasn’t bad either. It would likely still get the listener’s attention, but wasn’t quite as inspiring…and the distant voices (also in stereo, which could prove a problem for the mono listener, unless checked before broadcast) while creative, would probably hurt the advertiser, because in anything other than the best of listening environments, one might have a hard time hearing every word.

Mary’s, unfortunately, reminded me of the original commercial (sorry Mary) 🙁

That’s my 2 cents, for what it’s worth.

    🙂

(PS-This has been an auto-response, as no one in their right mind wakes up at 2:30am and starts responding to such blogs…thank you).
