Although I wish it were under happier circumstances, I’m glad to be able to share it with you.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Don LaFontaine. He was a great talent who was an inspiration to many, even if we weren’t all full-time V.O. pros.
I don’t know how close you were to him, but I know this is a loss for anyone in the industry-not to mention his family and friends. I was disappointed that I didn’t get to hear him last year but you found a great replacement. In retrospect, I look back and see how it was actually a blessing that he was able to be with his family for the birth of his grandchild last year.
Once again, thanks for the time you invest to help make radio, and us, better. Have a great week.

Actually, my relationship with Don LaFontaine was only via email and telephone. When he had to cancel his Summit appearance, he was extremely apologetic. Your point about how fortunate it is that Don was able to be there for his first grandchild’s birth is very well taken.

It was really nice of him to record that mp3 for the summit attendees too. I had to dig that out and give it another listen after I heard the news.
From all the interviews I’ve seen he looked like such a cool guy. A real shame for the entire industry.

Scott – Thanks for reminding me. I’ll see if I can find my copy and upload here on the blog. (And you’re right: It definitely was nice of Don.)

Yes Dan thank you for the Don LaFontaine post and video. Mr LaFontaine is a legend. His work was amazing. And although I did not know him, my understanding from those who did say he was a very giving man, a true gentleman!
My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this most difficult of times – and I hope they realize how much he is loved and admired. We will miss him – he continues to inspire us.

From everything I’ve heard and read about Don, he was someone who loved life to its fullest and a true gentleman. He will sure be missed.

As sad as it is to hear a great talent has passed what a celebration it is of a fantastic life. Who reading this wouldn’t be satisfied with HALF of the achievements of a legend like him?
Much respect and admiration to one of the all time legends.
