Audiobook Narrators

This video for audiobook narrators no longer is available.

But here’s a terrific 2.5-hour audio seminar for audiobook narrators by the performer who has won more individual Audie awards than any other narrator.

    Hello Dan:
I am very interested in your course. I just wonder again if there is a market for narrating books in Spanish language and people like me who live outside US and are not allowed to be at ACX.com … Will this course work for me? are there directories or services where I can promote my voice as a narrator for books in Spanish language? Thanks in advance for your answer.

I’m interested in knowing more about your self promotion class. There was no button to push at the end so I’m writing you to ask if there is a link?

    Thanks,
    Joni Davis

@Santiago: There absolutely is a market outside of ACX for Spanish language audiobooks. But If you’re not already narrating/producing audiobooks, the Self Promotion for Audiobook Narrators Class wouldn’t be right for you.

The class is for people who already have recorded at least one audiobook. There are three different types of authors they can choose to attract:

    1) Authors/publishers who want their audiobooks to be marketed for mass distribution. ACX narrators, for example, already have direct access to Audible.com’s and Amazon.com’s distribution.

    2) There also are narrators who don’t work with ACX but work with authors/publishers who have their own distribution access (e.g., publishers who work directly with Audible or who arrange for their audiobooks to be sold elsewhere — via catalogue, bookstores, etc.).

    3) Business authors who don’t care about being on Amazon but instead want audiobook versions of the books they market directly to their base. In other words, they’ve already got a print book that they sell directly to people in their niche, and having an audiobook version would both increase their sales and make it more likely that a prospect purchases — because there’s a version for readers and a version for listeners.

#1 (above) by far is the easiest: If you’ve got at least one audiobook on the market that you recorded via ACX, that should mean you’ve got an ACX account and are able to produce & narrate an audiobook without needing an outside studio, engineer, etc. If that’s the case, my Aikido method is a slam dunk. (To be clear: You wouldn’t be LOOKING for work on ACX, but you’d be able to use ACX to get audiobooks you produce marketed on Audible and Amazon.)

So…If you’re not on ACX and don’t want to be (or can’t be, due to geographical considerations), you should take Self Promotion for Audiobook Narrators Class unless you already have access to distribution.

    (Whew! Now even I’m confused!)

@Joni: When you scroll a little bit beneath the video, do you see a large blue & white box that says “ALERT LIST”? If so, that’s where you enter your name and email address and then hit the “Submit” button.

Already have Barbara’s book. In fact, I took a couple of sessions on audiobooks with her at the SAG VO Lab in NYC a few months back. She gave me some great stuff to work on for the book I was doing at the time, Apache Dawn. The excerpt is on my website.

Have not gotten the second confirmation emil though.

  • Dan O'Day March 30, 2017, 12:46 pm

@James: Barbara’s the best. If you don’t see the confirmation email in your inbox, please check your spam folder. I just checked and confirmed that you definitely are on the Alert List.

Dan, I am very excited to see you are offering this class. I look forward to registering!

  • Dan O'Day March 30, 2017, 2:47 pm

Tonya: Thanks for the encouraging feedback! It’ll be great to have you in the class.

  • Karen Merritt March 30, 2017, 6:15 pm

I’m going to file this class away on my “to do” list, and hopefully will be able to take it down the road, if it is available. (I’m still working on my first audiobook. It will be awhile before I’m done.) All the best to you! – Karen

@Karen: Great to hear from you! Can’t wait to hear your first audiobook (but from your comment, I guess I’ll have to).

  • Veleka Gray March 31, 2017, 2:37 am

    Sounds great!
