Dan is the one of the greats in today’s challenging radio/audio market — exhibiting a RARE combination of business savvy, marketing expertise, and, of course, talent.

This class is an excellent investment if you want to record audio books on ACX. The basics are covered: e.g. equipment selection, setting up your profile, finding jobs to audition for, the basics of performance. But there’s much more, providing the framework for a comprehensive way to approach ACX audiobook production as a business. Key takeaways: the process for recording, editing and mastering were almost worth the price in and of themselves. Also of huge benefit were the templates and guidance on how to deal with rights holders in a customer-first way. Finally, the hidden benefit of this class that continues to provide is the active and helpful Facebook group of ACXMC grads. They are always there for tips, encouragement and to rejoice in our shared success.

@ Jim Foster: Thanks for your encouraging input, Jim. You’re right: The Mastermind Group does seem to end up being one of the most valuable elements of the class. (Jim is a graduate of our 2015 class.)

Folks in this video aren’t exaggerating! Thanks to this class, more than 2700 copies of my 12 audiobooks have been purchased since early September. Thanks to Dan O’Day and David H. Lawrence XVII, my profile worked, I knew what to look for in terms of titles, learned the slickest process for recording and editing while meeting all the ACX guidelines, and had a guide for handling the business transactions and working with Rights Holders And as a graduate, there is still support for technological issues, marketing dilemmas, and just about everything else related to audiobooks. While I loved my former full-time job, and enjoy other voiceover gigs, this is absolutely the best encore career I could envision. It pays for itself and much more. If you want to narrate audiobooks, this is the class! Do it!

@Cindy Piller: Thanks, Cindy! We can’t keep up with your sales figures; each week in the Mastermind Group it seems they’ve jumped again.

(Cindy, BTW, took last year’s Home Study course.)

I’ll repeat here what I said recently to classmates: ACX Masterclass is the first VO-related class/training/resource I’ve had that has VERIFIABLY paid for itself. (And I did my first VO work in 1982, just for a little perspective…) This is not a performance course, it is not a business course, it is not a marketing course, it is not a technical course, it is not a support group; it is each of those as well as its own unique…gestalt…je ne sais quois…thing. It’s not for everybody–just everybody who wants to be successful narrating books and working through ACX.

I DO NOT live in USA nor UK… but in Argentina! CAN I take the course? I mean… is it worthwhile? Will I be assigned audio books if I do’t live in the Northern Hemisphere? My English is good, and I usually record for an app both in English and Spanish, but would LOVE to move on to audio books!

    And I liked your video.

  • Dan O'Day July 8, 2016, 2:29 pm

@Margaret: Although we’d be glad to accept your money to take our class, if you’re not eligible for ACX then I definitely recommend against it.

If you happen to be a U.S. citizen (regardless of where you live), you can join ACX easily.

Otherwise — unless you happen to have a U.S. tax ID, U.S bank account and U.S. mailing address (all of which ACX requires) –I’m afraid you’re left in the cold.

Sorry I don’t have a more encouraging response. But there’s no point in your investing in a class that teaches you how to get the most of ACX if ACX won’t let you join them.

  • Dan O'Day July 8, 2016, 4:50 pm

@Stuart Gauffi: Thanks for those kind words about the ACX Master Class, Stuart. BTW, I believe you’re going to make an appearance in our upcoming Video #3. Meanwhile, congrats on working French, German and English into that one paragraph.

To those trying to make a decision: I’m a 2014 class alumni. When Dan describes the person at the beginning, I swear he had me down to a tee! Dan and David will take you thru the complete process and keep you from making a myriad of mistakes that other classes don’t even mention. They continue to be there as a resource when you are done, not to mention our ACXMasterClass group. There are no “stupid questions”… we’ve already asked them!!! I took a class from another company years ago for far more money and then was basically thrown to the wolves. That won’t happen if you join our group, I promise! Bottom line (11 books to Audible later): Take the class and then jump into the waters of success. You will do fine as long as you don’t get in your own way!!!

  • Dan O'Day July 11, 2016, 12:18 am

@Linda Longcrane: Thanks for sharing your experience with others who are trying to decide if this class is for them. You were in our very first class; amazing how long ago that seems!
