Captivating images with one message. No voiceover needed. Obviously not assembled by a committee. A clear vision that makes us think. Refreshing.

    Absolute Genius

So often little credit is given to the importance of music selection in a spot, in this case a PSA

This music made the spot the winner it is.

When I had the opportunity to teach copywriting for several semesters at a university I specifically used this PSA of great descriptive, emotional writing.

Would you say this employs the power of Deletion?

  • Dan O'Day October 11, 2011, 12:03 pm

@Camden: I see what you mean, and I could argue it both ways.

Technically it’s not deletion, because there’s no dialogue at all.

But the overall technique of forcing the viewer to “hear” the message you want them to hear without your saying it certainly is at play there.

Well said! I just watched it again and noticed that it does in fact show the message “Wear your seat belt”. For some reason I didn’t notice that it said that the first time I viewed it. Perhaps that’s because the message is not nessasary?
