Hey! Did you know you can hear samples of almost everything we have?

USING NEWS SOUNDERS

QUESTION FOR DAN O'DAY:

We are running an ABC National news cast and we also have a local news director for our local and state news. I've always been taught, not to mention the fact that I think it sounds much better, to run two different sounders for those news casts. Is it not true that when you here the ABC News sounder you're expecting national news, so I don't think it's proper to run it for our local casts. I use a different sounder to signify it's local news. I'm the only one who does this (Morning Show) I don't think the shift is an issue.

The bottom line: I think we should use 2 different sounders. True or False???

DAN REPLIES:

>Is it not true that when you hear the ABC News sounder you're expecting national news<

I'm not sure if the listener expects to hear national news as much as "network quality" news.

If you feel that ABC News lends news credibility to your station, it might make sense to try to have some of that aura rub off on your local newscast as well.

You're treating ABC News as though it's not part of your station; I think it should be part of your station.

Just my opinion, of course.
